If you have ever found yourself needing to remove the date and time from your WordPress comments, there are several ways to accomplish this goal. For beginners, this can be an easy task that won’t take up too much of your time, but even more advanced users might need to refresh their memory from time to time on how to properly remove the date and time from your WordPress comments. Luckily, we’ve created an easy guide that breaks down all the steps on how to remove date and time from wordpress comments
1) Log in to your site as an administrator
Before you can do anything else, you’ll need to log into your site as an administrator. If you are uncertain how to do so, contact your hosting provider for assistance. This is usually done by clicking on My Site or Admin Panel in your dashboard. Most sites will also have a drop-down menu that allows you to select between different user accounts. This is essential in that it gives you access to all of your website’s options and settings.
2) Click on Settings
Once on your WordPress Dashboard, click on Settings then discussion. In the Threaded Comments section, there is a checkbox that says Show [date] at end of the comment. Uncheck it to remove that feature from your comments. For those who don’t have threaded comments enabled, you can still remove date and time information by clicking on Screen Options in the upper right corner of your screen. Then click on timestamp format and choose no time stamp from the drop-down menu.
3) Scroll down until you see Discussion
When you see Discussion, click on that. You’ll be taken to a section called Discussion Settings where you can view an input box labeled Time format. Paste for example [12-Mar-2016 23:45:59] into that input box. Hit update settings at the bottom of your screen. The next time someone comments on your site, they won’t have their date or time listed in their comment, but instead, it will just say 12-Mar-2016 23:45:59. This normally applies to dates only, so if you want to remove times as well, paste [12-Mar-2016 23:45:59] again into the Input Format box and hit Update Settings again.
4) Uncheck the box next to Display the time and date on comments
Click Save Changes at the bottom of your screen. You’ll notice that while you are editing your comment settings, a new checkbox will appear below the Display time stamp however, it will be unchecked because we just unchecked it. Click on that box. Save Changes again. That’s all.You now have comments on your website without an obnoxious timestamp. The only downside is that you won’t know how many times a specific comment has been made or who wrote what.
5) Click Save Changes
This is a simple step, but it’s important. When you click Save Changes, your changes are saved as a draft of your post. You can go back at any time and edit or publish your post. If you want to save it for later, just click Save Draft instead of Publish immediately after writing your post. In most cases, clicking Save Changes will automatically make your post visible on your site. But if you have other posts scheduled to be published before yours, they may appear first.
Conclusion
To remove these timestamps, you’ll need to remove some code, add some other code, adjust your settings, make a quick database change, and then start your site back up. The whole process should take around five minutes.
